Teams

Group people into teams and grant a whole team access to projects at once — joining a team unlocks its projects instantly, leaving removes that access.

Overview

A team is a named group of people in your organization — for example Design, Marketing, or Support. Instead of adding people to projects one by one, you grant a team access to a project and every member of that team can see and work on it immediately. When someone joins the team they pick up all of the team's projects at once; when they leave, that access goes away.

Teams give standard access — members can work in the project, but they don't manage the project's own member list. The manager level is still granted to individuals, project by project.

Each person belongs to at most one team. A person can also belong to no team — in that case they only have the project access granted to them individually.

Teams lives in the Organization group of the settings sidebar and is visible to owners and admins. A project manager who is not an admin manages a team's access from the project itself (see Granting a team access to a project).

Creating a team

Open Organization settings → Teams and choose New team. The team is created right away and its panel opens with the name ready to edit.

Type a name (for example, Design). It saves as you type — there's no separate confirmation step.

Add people from the Members tab and link projects from the Projects tab.

A brand-new team starts with a placeholder name (New team). If you close the panel without renaming it, the team stays in the list with that name — rename or delete it whenever you like.

Adding and removing people

Open a team and use Add member to pick from your organization's people. Because each person belongs to only one team, anyone already in another team appears disabled with a hint showing which team they're in — to move them, remove them from their current team first.

Removing someone from a team removes their access to that team's projects right away. The confirmation tells you how many projects they'll lose. Any project they were added to individually stays — only the team-granted access is removed.

Granting a team access to a project

You can link a project to a team from either side:

  • From the team: open the team and use Add project to link one of your organization's projects.
  • From the project: open the project's detail panel and use the Teams tab to grant an existing team access. This is how a project manager who isn't an organization admin grants access — to projects they manage.

Every member of the team immediately gains standard access to the linked project. Removing the link removes that access for the whole team at once (people with individual access to the project keep it).

How access adds up

A person's access to a project is the sum of what their team grants and what they were given individually:

  • Join a team that has three projects → you can see those three projects right away.
  • Get promoted to manager on one of them individually → you're a manager there, and still standard on the other two.
  • Leave the team → you lose the team's projects, except any where you also have individual access.

Owners and admins always see every project, regardless of teams.

Deleting a team

Open the team and choose Delete team from the actions menu (⋯) in the panel header. Deleting a team removes the access it granted; people keep any individual project access they already had. Because this changes what several people can see, the confirmation shows how many members and projects are affected before you proceed.
